little of this, little of jac

Back when we were planning our wedding, I wanted to pick a favor that guests could use again and again, whileΒ at the same time, act as a reminder of our special day! I came across the cutest vintage keys, that also double as a bottle opener! β€” Perfect to have in a drawer at home, or I have also since put one on a key ring and have it on my keychain with all my keys!β€”always ready to go! πŸ˜‰

They fit the look and feel of our wedding perfectly.Β  Sort of that romantic/chic/vintage sense.Β  Now that I had the perfect favor for our guests, I wanted a perfect way to display them.Β  I did not want to simply lay them out on a table or put them in a bowl.

So, when planning a wedding, what is one of your go to spots for inspiration??!β€”PINTEREST! I looked up different things to try and get an idea of what I wanted/needed, and came across a few types of framesβ€” enough to give me clue of what we should do! Β I showed my husband some pictures for inspiration, so he could get the idea of what we needed to build (and by β€œwe”, I mean β€œhe”  πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚) And what we came up with? A metal wiring wooden frame.

My husband is an Assistant Store Manager at one of the Toole’s Ace Hardware stores, and has become quite the handy man.Β  On one of our days off, we took a ride to one of their locations together, and looked at their different items and options (plenty to choose from), and picked what we needed!

We got metal wiring (which was light silver in color), and picked up some metallic/charcoal color spray paint to go over it.Β  He also picked up the wood we would need to make the frame out of, and a small can of white paint.Β  Simple enough, right?

When we got home, he went to work on the project, and built exactly what I had envisioned.

It was seriously everything I could have hoped for, and fit perfectly with our venue. (An old manor house on a beautiful piece of property, with an old oak tree as the backdrop for the ceremony, and a beautiful ballroom for the receptionβ€”stay tuned for a post next month with tons of pictures recapping that amazing day!)

Since the wedding, I have turned it into a piece of wall decor, and now use the clothes pins to hang pictures on it!

If I was in love with it as a decor piece for the wedding, I am as much– or even more so– in love with it now!

It is a perfect addition to our home, and a reminder of that special day as well.

Have you guys done any special DIY projects for your wedding day or for your home? Would love to see and/or hear about it!

This is sooooo creative and sweet, Jac!!! I love it! And I love that your hubs built it with your inspiration! SO special. You’ll always be the lifesaver in a non-twist-off beer bottle sitch! Lol! Mike has a bottle opener he made from an old cymbal, and it’s on his keychain, so he always gets to help others! lol. SO cool!!!

glad you think so girl! And that’s awesome he made one from that!

It’s funny, because I though everyone just knew the key was a bottle opener–but then one person made the comment to me that they didn’t know when I happened to be talking about it, and so I posted a PSA to FB and turns out so many other guests had no idea too! Lol. I was like sheesh guys, I’m not just gonna give you a cool looking key as a favor! Bahaha. And then everyone was saying they had to put it on their keychain then to always have as a backup πŸ˜‰
